Rick Woodson's book, Words of Woodson, is available! The book is a collection of sports columns written over Rick’s 40-year newspaper career. The columns are in chronological order, beginning with Rick’s first job at the Shreveport (La.) Journal in the 1960s. The best columns from the Longview (Wa.) Daily News, Honolulu Advertiser, Rochester Times Union and Rochester Business Journal follow. Longtime fans of Rick’s writing will recognize his off-the-wall cousin Billy Bob, and classic Woodson appraisals of the LPGA, the Buffalo Bills during the interminable 80s, and drug-enhanced sports performance.
Among the greatest hits: “Fifty Reasons Why Golf Beats Baseball and Football,” letters home from college star `Jim Bob’ studying ``to git this here enginearing degree,” athletes with class (Terry Bradshaw, Muhammad Ali, Jack Nicklaus) and without (who shall remain nameless).
Words of Woodson began as a casual compilation of Rick’s favorite columns as a gift for his children and grandchildren. He didn’t know where to stop and, 274 pages later, Rick has a handsome publication meant for friends and anyone who enjoys a good read. You needn’t be a sports junkie!
